By Amanda Penkalski, 07/07/22, 10:00AM CDT

The Queen City Crush played the Ozark Wild for the first time on Wednesday, July 6.

The Crush started the game at the plate and a single to left field from Tanner Lumley (Fair Grove, MO) begun the offense. Nathan Weatherly (Kiln, MS) followed with another single but the threat stopped to end the top of the first. Josh Buxton (Strafford, MO) quickly retired the Wild side to end the first inning clean. Brock Wendlandt (Buffalo, MO) leadoff the second with a walk to bring Gabe Falcone (Sellersburg, IN) up to bat. Falcone hits a single to left to keep the offense going. Ryan Shoulders (Collinsville, OK) followed with an RBI single to right field and scored Wendlandt to take the 1-0 lead. Buxton allows one run but ends the inning on a pickoff. The Crush and the Wild end the second inning tied 1-1.

Weatherly starts the third inning offense with a double to left field. Trey Mulholland (Aurora, MO) backs it up with a single to center putting runners on first and third. Wendlandt sends him home on a sacrifice fly to center. The Crush ended the top of the third with a 2-1 lead. Mulholland goes both ways and takes the mound for the bottom of the third. A three-up, three-down inning for Mulholland kept the Wild trailing at one run. Jayden Tarbet (Springfield, MO) is hit by pitch and Shoulders reaches on an error to load first and second base to start the fourth inning. The top of the fourth quickly ends leaving runners to put the Crush back on defense. Mulholland quickly puts away the Wild in the bottom of the fourth. After a quiet fifth inning on both sides, Tarbet wakes up the Crush offense with a double in the top of the sixth. The bats stopped there to put Levi Loughridge (Rolla, MO) on the hill to throw in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Wild managed two runs to take the lead 3-2.

Lumley led off the seventh with a single to center and Alec Boldt (North Liberty, IA) does the same to put runners on first and second with no outs. Weatherly draws a walk to load the bases. Mulholland steps up and wears a pitch to tie the game 3-3. Wendlandt drives in an RBI single to take the lead. A fielder’s choice ends the inning and the Crush led 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh. Loughridge retires the side in four batters keeping the lead.

Lumley reaches on an error to start the top of the eighth and a walk drawn by Boldt put two runners on. Mulholland is hit by pitch again to load the bases and Wendlandt drives another single to score Lumley and Boldt and a wild pitch sends Mulholland home. The Crush took the lead at 7-3. Loughridge secures the Crush win with no runs allowed in the bottom of the eighth before time expired.

The Crush play the Wild again on July 7th at 4:30.
