The Queen City Crush traveled to Jefferson City to face the Jeff City Renegades Saturday, July 9th.

Isaac Miller (Madison, WV) started the game at the plate for the Crush offense with a leadoff single to left field and later scored on a double from Tanner Lumley (Fair Grove, MO) for the first run of the game. Lumley added another run after stealing third and a throwing error giving the Crush an early 2-0 lead. Nathan Weatherly (Kiln, MS) added another double to the game and Trey Mulholland (Aurora, MO) drew a walk to put two runners on. The bats stopped after two quick outs but the Crush led 2-0 going into the bottom of the first. Mulholland did double duty to take the mound for the Crush defense. Pitching around a walk and some hits, Mulholland kept the Crush lead only allowing one run to score by the Renegades.

Aaron Fisher (Aurora, MO) led off with a walk to start the second inning and scores after two wild throws to extend the Crush lead 3-1. Jayden Tarbet (Springfield, MO) hit a single to left field to keep the offense alive. Miller reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Tarbet added a run to the lead after back-to-back wild pitches. Lumley knocked a single up the middle and stole his way to second but was left on base after two quick outs. Crush led 4-1 moving into the bottom half of the second. Mulholland kept the Renegades quiet with no added runs in the bottom of the second. Mulholland moves to the plate to lead off the third inning and draws a walk to reach first. Brock Wendlandt (Buffalo, MO) moves Mulholland to third after a single to right field. Gabe Falcone (Sellersburg, IN) reached on a fielder’s choice and scored Mulholland for the fifth Crush run. A couple of outs stop the offense and the Crush led 5-1 after the top half. The Renegades score three to cut the Crush lead to 5-4 at the end of the third inning.

Miller got a single to start the fourth inning but was thrown out at second for the first out. Lumley follows by drawing a walk and moved to second after Alec Boldt (North Liberty, IA) wears a pitch. Weatherly drew another walk to load the bases and Mulholland knocks a single to centerfield and scored Lumley and Boldt before the last out to extend the Crush lead to 7-4. Wyatt Keplar (Neosho, MO) came in as relief and held the Renegades at two scored runs. The Crush kept the lead at 7-6 going into the fifth inning. An uneventful top of the fifth for the Crush and the Renegades took the 9-7 lead with three more runs.

After a quick sixth inning on both sides, Boldt starts the seventh with a drawn walk. Two wild pitches moved him around to third and a walk from Wendlandt add to the bases but no runs were scored. Josh Buxton (Strafford, MO) ends the seventh with the Renegades scoreless.

The Crush retired in order in the top half and a three-up, three-down from Buxton in the bottom half ends the eighth. Lumley led the ninth inning off with a double to right field and was sent home by a single from Boldt. The last two outs of the game were recorded and the Crush fell to the Renegades 9-8.

The Crush will be back at US Ballpark to take on the Route 66 Stars Monday, July 11th.
